HOW TO PLAY PICKLEBALL IN JAPAN
Dedicated courts are still rare
Japan has few permanent pickleball courts. Most play happens on gymnasium floors or on tennis courts with portable nets and taped lines, booked by the hour.
Public gyms and courts
City and ward facilities are affordable but usually require registration with the local reservation system, and some are only open to people who live or work in the area.
Open play sessions
The easiest way to start is to join an open play session organised by a local community. Paddles and balls are often available to borrow, which is rare for court bookings.
What visitors should know
Indoor venues almost always require non-marking indoor shoes, and outdoor shoes are not allowed on gym floors. Check what to bring on the event page, and cancel early if your plans change.
